OEM-grade or aftermarket: what the AED 130 difference actually buys

The iPhone 11 Pro Max shipped with a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel, and that is an expensive display to match. Compare quotes around Dubai and you will find screens advertised well below the prices above - almost always an aftermarket panel. On the bench the differences we see most often are these: True Tone stops working unless the original backlight flex is transferred across, sustained brightness is lower than the panel Apple fitted, and touch response can feel slightly heavier at the edges. Aftermarket OLED also tolerates heat less well, which matters more in a car parked in a Dubai August than it would in a cooler market.

Both options are available here. The OEM-grade panel at AED 550 carries our one-year warranty; the aftermarket panel at AED 420 carries a shorter one. We will tell you plainly what you are giving up before you choose, and either way you get the price in writing before any work starts.

Common iPhone 11 Pro Max Faults We Fix

Six years into this model's life, the same eight jobs account for almost every iPhone 11 Pro Max that comes through our door in JLT.

Cracked or black screen

A dropped iPhone 11 Pro Max usually breaks the outer glass first and the OLED underneath second. If the display is black, flickering or showing green or pink lines, the panel itself has failed and needs replacing. We transfer the original Face ID sensor assembly across so the feature keeps working.

Battery draining or sudden shutdowns

The 3,969 mAh cell in this model is now six years old on most handsets. Shutdowns at 20 to 30 per cent charge, rapid drain in the heat, or a swollen back that lifts the screen all point to the same fix. Replacement takes under an hour.

Face ID not working

"Unable to activate Face ID" usually follows a drop, water ingress, or a previous screen replacement done elsewhere without transferring the original sensor flex. We diagnose which of the three it is free of charge before quoting anything.

Charging port and slow charging

Lightning ports collect pocket lint and Dubai dust, and after six years the contacts wear. If the cable only works at a certain angle or charging has become slow, the port assembly is the usual culprit rather than the battery.

Cracked back glass

On the iPhone 11 Pro Max the rear glass is laminated to the chassis, so it cannot simply be unclipped. We separate it with a laser, clear the adhesive residue and fit a new panel with the camera bezel intact.

Water and liquid damage

The IP68 seals on a 2019 phone have long since aged. Pool water, sea water and spilled coffee all corrode the board differently. Bring it in switched off and un-charged - the fastest route to a saved device is ultrasonic cleaning before corrosion sets in.

Speaker, earpiece and microphone

If callers cannot hear you, speakerphone sounds muffled, or the earpiece has gone quiet, the fault is usually a blocked mesh or a failed module rather than the logic board. This is one of the cheaper repairs on the model.

Boot loop, Apple logo and software faults

A handset stuck on the Apple logo, restarting in a loop or refusing an iOS update is not always a hardware failure. We attempt a data-safe software recovery first and only move to board-level work if the software route fails.

How Long Each iPhone 11 Pro Max Repair Takes

Repair Typical time in the workshop
Screen replacement30 - 60 minutes
Battery replacement30 - 60 minutes
Charging port repairSame day
Camera repairSame day
Back glass replacementSame day
Speaker or microphoneSame day
Water damage treatment1 - 3 days
Motherboard / chip-level repair2 - 5 days

Screen and battery work is done in front of you because both are module swaps. Water damage and motherboard repairs run into days for a different reason: the board has to be stripped, ultrasonically cleaned, dried and then tested in stages, and rushing that is how a phone comes back a second time. We will give you a realistic completion time at the free diagnostic rather than an optimistic one at the counter.

Will Face ID Still Work After an iPhone 11 Pro Max Screen Replacement?

Yes. Face ID keeps working after an iPhone 11 Pro Max screen replacement as long as the original TrueDepth sensor assembly is transferred from the old display to the new one. The sensor flex is paired to your logic board at the factory, so it must move across with the repair. A new screen alone does not restore or break Face ID.

This is the single most common worry we hear about this model, and it is worth being precise about it. There are two separate parts in play. The display panel is a commodity - it can be swapped freely. The TrueDepth module, which holds the dot projector and infrared camera, is cryptographically paired to that specific handset. Transfer it correctly and Face ID carries on exactly as before.

Where it goes wrong is a cheap repair elsewhere that fits a new screen complete with a donor sensor assembly. Face ID then fails permanently, because the donor module is paired to a different phone. If your iPhone 11 Pro Max started showing "Unable to activate Face ID" after a repair somewhere else, bring in the old screen if you still have it - the original assembly can often be recovered from it.

What nobody can fix, including Apple, is a physically damaged dot projector. If the projector itself has failed after a drop or water ingress, Face ID cannot be restored on that logic board and we will tell you so at the free diagnostic rather than charging you to find out.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Back Glass Replacement: Why It Takes a Laser

The iPhone 11 Pro Max back glass is laminated directly to the aluminium chassis, not clipped to a removable panel. Replacing it means separating the broken glass with a laser machine, clearing the adhesive and glass residue from the frame, and bonding a new panel in place. That extra process is why back glass costs more and takes longer than a screen.

Some shops in Dubai avoid the laser entirely and quote you for a full housing swap instead - your logic board, cameras and battery moved into a new aluminium frame. It works, but it is a far bigger teardown, it costs more, and on a six-year-old phone every ribbon cable you disturb is a cable that might not go back perfectly. Laser separation leaves the rest of the device untouched.

Two practical points people ask about. The camera bezel is a separate piece of sapphire-covered glass and is priced separately - a cracked rear camera lens does not require a full back glass job. And the original colours for this model, Midnight Green, Space Grey, Silver and Gold, are all still available to us, so the phone does not have to come back a different colour to the one you bought.

If the back glass is only lightly spidered and the phone is otherwise sound, it is worth asking whether the repair is worth doing at all. We will give you an honest answer, which is not always yes.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Battery Health: When Replacement Is Worth It

Replace an iPhone 11 Pro Max battery once maximum capacity falls below 80 per cent. Check it under Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health & Charging. Below 80 per cent Apple flags the cell as needing service, and on this model that is where sudden shutdowns and throttling usually begin. Replacement at My Celcare JLT starts at AED 380.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max shipped with a 3,969 mAh cell in September 2019, which makes almost every one of them six years old. Lithium-ion chemistry does not care how gently you treated it - calendar age alone degrades a cell. Most units we see now sit somewhere in the 70s, and the owner has quietly adjusted their life around a phone that no longer lasts a day.

Heat is the local accelerator. A phone left on a dashboard or in a glovebox in a Dubai summer is spending hours at temperatures well above anything Apple designed the cell to sit at, and that shortens its life measurably faster than the same phone would age in Europe. If your battery health dropped sharply over one summer rather than gradually over years, that is usually why.

One thing not to wait on: if the back of the phone has started to lift, or the screen no longer sits flush in the frame, the cell is swelling. Stop charging it and bring it in. A swollen battery is a safety issue, not a performance one, and it will eventually crack the display from underneath.

Is a 2019 iPhone 11 Pro Max Still Worth Repairing?

An iPhone 11 Pro Max is worth repairing when the total repair cost stays under roughly half of what the handset would sell for working. A battery at AED 380 or a screen at AED 420 clears that test comfortably for most owners. A water-damaged board plus a screen plus a back glass usually does not.

That is the whole calculation, and we would rather you ran it than felt sold to. Before you commit, check two things. First, what a working iPhone 11 Pro Max in your storage size currently fetches on the Dubai second-hand market. Second, whether your handset still receives iOS updates - Settings, General, Software Update will tell you in a few seconds.

Where the answer is usually yes: a single fault on an otherwise clean phone. Screen, battery, charging port, back glass, speaker. These are module swaps on a device whose camera system and A13 Bionic chip still hold up perfectly well for everyday use, and one repair buys you another two or three years.

Where the answer is often no: three or more faults stacked on one handset, or a board that has been sitting wet for weeks. In those cases we will say so at the free diagnostic. You pay nothing, and you leave knowing where you stand rather than having spent AED 900 on a phone that was always going to be replaced.

Walk in Mon-Sat, 9am-8pm
Free pickup across Dubai

Our workshop is in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, a short walk from DMCC Metro Station on the Red Line. You can walk in without an appointment during opening hours, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm. Screen and battery repairs are done while you wait, so for most jobs there is no second trip.

Being a fixed premises rather than a doorstep-only service matters more than it sounds on a six-year-old phone. Board-level work needs a microscope, a hot-air station and an ultrasonic cleaner - none of which fits in a van. If your iPhone 11 Pro Max needs more than a module swap, it needs a bench.

We regularly see customers from Dubai Marina, JVC, JVT, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, Al Barsha and Downtown Dubai, and free pickup and delivery is available across Dubai if you would rather not make the trip. Call 04 421 1494 or message us on WhatsApp to arrange it.

Why Choose My Celcare JLT for iPhone 11 Pro Max Repair

  • Thirteen years on Apple hardware, in one place. We have been repairing iPhones from our Jumeirah Lakes Towers workshop since 2012, and we have worked on the iPhone 11 Pro Max since the week it launched in 2019. Our Google rating is 4.6 out of 5 across more than 1,000 reviews.

  • A price in writing before we start. The free diagnostic comes first, then a fixed quote. No hidden fees and no charges added at collection. If we cannot repair the device you pay nothing at all under our No Fix No Fee policy.

  • Warranty on every repair. OEM-grade screen replacements carry a one-year warranty. Battery replacements carry three months. You are told which applies to your repair before you agree to it, not after.

  • Board-level capability, not just module swaps. Microscope, hot-air and ultrasonic cleaning on site means water damage and motherboard faults on the iPhone 11 Pro Max are repaired here rather than sent away or written off.

  • Your data stays on your phone. Screen, battery, back glass and port repairs do not touch your storage, and we never ask for your passcode unless a repair genuinely requires testing that needs it.
