MacBook users often assume a slow Mac means it is time to buy a new one. In most cases, it is not. macOS handles memory and processing differently from Windows - and has specific causes of slowdown.

MacBook-Specific Causes of Slowness

• kernel_task using high CPU: macOS deliberately throttles the CPU to protect against overheating. The real fix is resolving the heat source (usually a clogged heatsink or failed fan).
• Spotlight re-indexing: After a macOS update, Spotlight re-indexes your entire drive. This can cause 100% CPU usage for 1-3 hours. If it continues for days, it indicates a drive issue.
